Painter, sculptor, photograph and scenographer, he was born in Senegal in 1969.

His work includes several references to this hometown, Dakar, the city he grew up in.

Soly Cisse graduated from the Fine Art School of Dakar.

Duality is in the centre of his paintings, drawings and oneiric sculptures: human vs. bestiary, tradition vs. modernity and reality vs. fantasy. The animal is a central aspect of his work.

Soly Cisse created with a paintbrush in one hand and a knife in the other.

In 2017, the « Musée Dapper » dedicated him a solo exhibition.

More recently, in early 2018, Soly Cisse was among the artists selected by Fondation Clément, Martinique and Fondation Dapper, Gorée, for their exhibition « Afriques, Artistes d’hier et d’aujourd’hui » (Africa, yesterday and today’s artists).
